3.6L Pentastar V6

In the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the standard powerplant is the Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine. This innovative engine incorporates Electronic Start/Stop (ESS) technology designed to conserve fuel by temporarily shutting off fuel flow and powering down the engine when the vehicle comes to a halt, thereby maximizing fuel efficiency. Upon releasing the brake pedal, the engine seamlessly reignites. The Pentastar engine offers a robust 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to tow up to 6,200 pounds when properly equipped with the trailer tow package. Like all Grand Cherokee engines, the Pentastar engine delivers power to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee models equipped with the V6 engine come with standard rear-wheel drive, while 4×4 is optional. However, here in Michigan, it is more common to find 4×4 Grand Cherokee models, as they are better suited for our unpredictable weather. The Grand Cherokee is eligible for Quadra-Trac I 4×4, Quadra-Trac II 4×4, and Quadra-Drive II 4×4 with an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

4xe PHEV

In 2022, a groundbreaking addition came to the Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup with the introduction of the 4xe powertrain, marking the Grand Cherokee’s inaugural foray into plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology. The 4xe PHEV system combines both gasoline and electric power sources. The gasoline component of the 4xe system is derived from a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Positioned at the front of the engine, in place of the traditional alternator, is an electric motor. Another electric motor is housed within the transmission, where the torque converter is typically situated. These electric motors are fueled by a 400-volt, 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This arrangement grants the Grand Cherokee 4xe models a formidable 375 horsepower and a robust 470 lb-ft of torque. Impressively, it delivers an equivalent of 56 miles per gallon, an all-electric driving range of 21 miles, and an impressive total driving range of 470 miles. The 4xe system is available for the Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims, with exclusivity to the Trailhawk trim. Grand Cherokee 4xe models come equipped with Jeep’s Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system, while Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential is optional.

5.7L HEMI V8

While the three-row Grand Cherokee L comes standard with the aforementioned 3.6L V6 engine, a more potent engine is available. It incorporates an array of fuel-saving technologies, including cylinder deactivation, a sophisticated feature that electronically deactivates four of the eight cylinders when full power isn’t required. This clever system enhances fuel efficiency during coasting. Upon reapplication of throttle pressure by the driver, the remaining four cylinders promptly reengage to provide the additional power needed. Moreover, the engine employs variable valve timing (VVT) to deliver exceptional performance and optimize fuel efficiency. With the V8 engine under the hood, you can expect an impressive 357 horsepower and a robust 390 lb-ft of torque, enabling a substantial towing capacity of up to 7,200 pounds. All Grand Cherokee L models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the option of rear-wheel drive, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II.
